Childbirth & Parenting Classes

Preregistration is required for all classes. All classes are taught by Certified Childbirth Educators. A minimum of four expectant mothers are required for each class. For registration, please call 253-333-2522.

Family Birth Center Tours

Planning for the birth of your baby is an exciting time. This special, FREE tour offers a relaxed opportunity to view the Birthing Center, meet the nursing staff and receive answers to your questions.

Third Wednesday of every month, 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.  Class dates and times may change due to unforeseen events. Please call 253-333-2522 to confirm dates and times.

Childbirth Preparation Class

Designed for first-time parents, this seven-week class covers information on pregnancy, labor and delivery, breathing and relaxation techniques, care of mother and newborn, infant feeding, infant safety, medications and cesarean birth. Classes are on Tuesday or Thursday evening.

Cost: $135—Medical coupons from the Washington State Department of Social & Health Services accepted. There is an extra $25.00 charge for couples not planning to deliver at Auburn Regional Medical Center.

Birth Basics—One Day Childbirth Preparation Class
Saturdays, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
This is a one-day class that covers all the same infomation as the Fast Finish Class described below.

Fast Finish Class

A three-week class that includes labor and birth information, breathing and relaxation techniques, medications, cesarean birth and car seat safety. The class does not include baby care and infant feeding. 

Cost: $100—Medical coupons accepted. There is an extra $25.00 charge for couples not planning to deliver at Auburn Regional Medical Center.

Big Brothers and Sisters Class

This one-hour class is tailored to meet your child's needs, to help answer his or her questions and to assist you in preparing your child for a new family member. Your child will watch a video, learn about babies and tour the Family Birth Center. Additional time is spent with families who are considering having their child present at the birth. The class is for children ages 3 and older and is offered Monday evenings, every other month.

Cost: $30 per family.

Conscious Fathering

A one-time course taught by a dad, for dads or new granddads. Topics include infant care, bonding and skills to become a great dad.

Breastfeeding Class

One-time class taught by a lactation consultant. Topics include how to establish an adequate milk supply and recognizing feeding cues and normal feeding patterns.

Fathers are encouraged to attend.

Car Seat Class

One-time class taught by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration certified carseat technician. Topics include choosing the right carseat for your baby and vehicle, when to move your baby out of the infant seat, when to turn your baby from a rear-facing position to a forward-facing position and more.

Car and Booster Seat Checks
Auburn Regional Medical Center and Safe Kids® King County South offers monthly car seat inspections. Please bring your car seat manual and vehicle manual. Technicians are nationally certified and will inspect your installed car seat. This service is free but donations are gladly accepted.

Newborn Care

A one-time course taught by a certified childbirth instructor. Topics include safety, choosing a physician, the emotional and physical needs of mom, caring for baby and common concerns.

Cost: $30 per family
